Just wait till the 1960s World Cinema marathon kicks back up!

Calabuch (1956)
★ ★ ★ - Good
This is what I love about my Director project. Four hours ago, I didn't have a Berlanga movie I could recommend and I didn't know this Edmund Gwenn vehicle. Now, I have a Discovery, one which uses Gwenn's great charm to set the tone for an entire town of warm and likable people. There's a strong neorealism feel that keeps the people from dropping into quirky and keeps the town from feeling like a fantasy. Pleasant without the need to be more than that and though Gwenn's performance is dubbed, his reactions do a lot of the work.
