This will never be over. But then again that is kind of the point. Thanks for all the great suggestions!

Housekeeping - great novel with incredible writing by Marilynne Robinson and a good film by one of my faves Bill Forsyth.  This is a great example of what's great in the film isn't what's best in the novel and vice versa.  Doesn't sound like a good thing, but it is in this case.

Are you open to comics?

I would consider graphic novels, but not comic book series.

You know most graphic novels started off as comics? Watchmen, Dark Knight, From Hell. Graphic novels started as a collection of comic series.

pixote you DO need to read and see The Right Stuff

I am re-reading Hammett's The Glass Key plus see Miller's Crossing
LA Confidential (very interesting how the book is cut down to make a workable film)
Out of Sight
Get Shorty
Rum Punch & Jackie Brown
The Grifters
Prizzi's Honour
The Manchurian Candidate
Falling Angel & Angel Heart
Rosemary's Baby
The Haunting of Hill House
Ghost Story

Well, no one is going to make you read #1-322 of Spider-Man, but what if a movie is based on say, #1-20 of a comic series, because that's essentially a graphic novel?

I'd have to be convinced.

Of what, exactly? A good number of graphic novels are exactly what I just said, collections of story arcs within a series, and some movies have been based on them. X-Men 3 for instance is an adaptation of The Dark Phoenix Saga which is in circulation as a graphic novel, but it's actually just a collection of about 14 or so issues of The Uncanny X-Men.
