I mean I don't like 'em, think the product is a promotion and nothing more.  Should I give 'em another chance?

I like that they are kind of chewy and heartier than rolled or quick instant oats.  I will make some at the beginning of the week and have it for breakfast for days.  I have a good recipe for Baked Apple Oatmeal.

What is a steel cut oat? Are the oats in America really tough?

My cereal of choice is Maple Pecan Granola :)

Regarding seasons, Winter is my favourite month - I just enjoy the sunless skies - we don't get snow here, so it is mainly just cold and dry. I can wear my thick jackets, and spend the long nights wandering the cities before I have to hide from the sun at dawn.

It's whole grain groats (inner part of the oat) that have been cut into pieces rather than rolled flat like most oatmeal available in the US.

ses, your Baked Apple Oatmeal recipe looks really good. I might make some if I find some steel cut oats - I guess I could make it out of rolled oats as a fall-back?

There is a lot of milk in that recipe. Do you ever have issues with milk boiling over in the oven? Last week when I made a rice pudding I wasn't watching carefully enough and ended up with milk all over the bottom of the oven.

I'll try your recipe, ses.

Here's what we had this weekend that was great:  Apple cider kraut

If you can make a recipe of that, I'll love you forever.

That recipe uses a lot of liquid because the steel cut oats absorb a lot of liquid and take longer to cook than rolled oats, so I don't know if that would work with this recipe or not.

When I have a lot of milk in a recipe I try and use a big dish so that it won't boil over or put a tray under the dishes in case it boils over.

Saltine, I will have to work on the apple cider kraut.
