I'm looking for stuff I could watch with my parents... any good for the whole family type films in this list (it doesn't have to be completely innocuous mind you...)?
13 Assassins (Takashi Miike, 2010) [AS]
Attack the Block (Joe Cornish, 2011) [OS]
Certified Copy (Abbas Kiarostami, 2010) [OS]
I Saw the Devil (Jee-woon Kim, 2010) [OS]
Martha Marcy May Marlene (Sean Durkin, 2011) [OS]
Of Gods and Men (Xavier Beauvois, 2010) [AS]
Rango (Gore Verbinski, 2011) [OS]
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Rupert Wyatt, 2011) [AS]?
Senna (Asif Kapadia, 2010) [OS]
Shame (Steve McQueen, 2011) [OS]
The Skin I Live In (Pedro Almodovar, 2011) [AS]
Source Code (Duncan Jones, 2011) [OS]
This is what I've seen from your list.
Fun with the family? Stay away from
Shame,
The Skin I Live In,
13 Assassins,
I Saw the Devil,
Martha Marcy May Marlene and I
think Attack the Block.
Source Code is plenty of fun if you're willing to forgive some loony plot holes.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes won pretty much everybody over, including me. Unless your family hates animals, that should work.
Certified Copy is an extraordinary picture, even though it is, in essence, two people talking for about 90 minutes.
I kept
Of Gods and Men on the list, but that depends on what you think your family might enjoy. It's really slow, but as a character piece, it's also very gripping and emotional.
Rango I found to be amazing, both from a visual and story standpoint, despite it being quite derivative in the latter department.
