Heh. The German version of Idol has this guy:

You know, him, from this 80s band:

They've always made me cry.

Writing about On Dangerous Ground and The Racket.
-Le Chiffre: You changed your shirt, Mr Bond. I hope our little game isn't causing you to perspire.

-James Bond: A little. But I won't consider myself to be in trouble until I start weeping blood.

Avoiding the Religion thread, lest I be tempted to engage.

Also, trying to find more ways to procrastinate. This 18-page student essay in front of me is very daunting. If I usually spend 1/2 an hour reading/responding tor 4-5 page student essays, how long is this one going to take? *Sigh.* On a happy note, this student is incredibly intelligent and a very good writer, to boot. Still. 18 pages.

;D I believe it.

Ok, I'm tackling the essay, and I just have to share this lovely paragraph:

"Perception can be a funny thing. In some cases, to observe a thing directly, to make a thing the subject of one's focus, is not the most effective way to see it. For instance, there is a phenomenon known to stargazers: when gazed directly upon, many dim stars seem to simply disappear into nothingness. I remember observing this myself as a young child, wondering if the stars I could see dimly from the sides of my vision really existed. I later learned that this is a property of the human eye, that the visual receptors in one's peripheral vision are better attuned to seeing in very low light. Some thing cannot be understood by focusing directly upon them, they  must be approached laterally, while looking at something else. Certain numbers are like this, irrational numbers like Pi, or the square root of seven. To view them directly is to stare at infinity. We move their true nature to the periphery and represent them as symbols, as estimations, or in relation to other numbers. Some things can only be observed through the peripheral vision, but this sensitivity is an evolutionary adaptation, evolved to attune one to the dangers of the world, evolved to alert one to the nightmare-beasts that slide silently through the mists and shadows. To see them, to acknowledge them, is to put oneself in their midst."

Love that last sentence.
