Well you have the right idea with the hatchback, definitely the way to go.

The GTI has been my dream car for quite some time, and it's a 5 speed manual... which is more fun.

The Impreza has an automatic gearbox, but is a 4 wheel drive (better than the FWD GTI) and will be more reliable in the long run.

Pfft, manuals are so irrelevant.

One advantage of the Subaru is the horizontally aligned engine means that in event the timing belt goes, the engine doesn't. I know this from experience. Replacing the timing belt and a few other small things was doable, replacing the engine would have meant a new car at that point.

Decided to check out the Subaru before the Volkswagen. However, first thing's first... the dreaded credit union.  :-\

Pimping my show again. Episode 8 hits you tonight from 10pm-Midnight EST and can be heard at www.bearcastradio.com. Tonight we once again feature comedian Geoff Tate in studio and it should prove to be a pretty good show. Listen or not. Just thought I'd throw it out there. And if you just want to catch up with the podcasts, check out our blog at heresthethingradio.blogspot.com.
