A Random Walk Down Wall Street
Intelligent Investing

I am on a kick learning about the stock market. I am having an unhealthy amount of fun doing so. I really dont think there is anything on earth more entertaining than learning about something which you previously knew nothing about.

My girlfriend is getting kind of sick of the factoids so here is one for you guys.  ;D

According to Warren Buffet if you took all the gold minded for all of history it would only fill a 67 foot cube. For that money you could buy; not some, but all the farmland in the US, 10 Exxon Mobils, and still have a trillion dollars of walking around money!

Actually reading more was one of my resolutions that I haven't broken yet.

Here are the books thus far in 2011:

Winter's Bone: Daniel Woodrell
Fool: Christopher Moore
Ham on Rye: Charles Bukowski
The Adventures of the Thunderbolt Kid: Bill Bryson
"Well it lacked certain elements that we need to market a film successfully. Suspense, laughter, violence, nudity, sex. Happy endings. Mainly happy endings."

“But what about reality?”

Best New Book This Year (so far)- Ripley's Game
Best Re-read Book- Glitz. So good it might now be my favourite book, full stop.

LaBrava Elmore Leonard; Recommended.
Farenheit 451 Ray Bradbury; Definitely recommended. Comments here.
The Film That Changed My Life Robert Elder; Like the filmspotting forum- except these guys know what they are talking about.
Destroyer of Worlds Larry Niven/ Edward Lerner.
Redemolished Alfred Bester- yummy
Betrayer of Worlds Larry Niven/ Edward Lerner
Worth Dying For Lee Child- Jack Reacher piece of trash; love them all.
The Illustrated Man Ray Bradbury - This guy can write. Melancholy, mellifluous, maddening, momentous, miasma.
Glitz Elmore Leonard
The Talented Mr. Ripley Patricia Highsmith
The Martian Chronicles Ray Bradbury
Making Movies Sidney Lumet
Stanley Kubrick Cahiers du Cinema
A Matter Of Life And Death Ian Christie
Ripley's Game Patricia Highsmith {Made The American Friend a better film by elaborating on the plot, not sure that's Wender's strong point}
The Boy That Followed Ripley Patricia Highsmith {Listened to a BBC play version of Ripley Underground to fill in the gaps; Ian Hart made an interesting version of Ripley}
Hitchcock Truffaut Francois Truffaut
Dress Her In Indigo John D. MacDonald
The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress Robert Heinlein
The Computer Connection Alfred Bester

EoY comment- At least, listing the books I did read, highlights that I need to make more time for them. 20 is an appalling low number. I have liked all of them but it is a fairly safe list of authors for me.
