*3. Columbine by Dave Cullen

I read this at the beginning of last year and agree that it is really brilliant. I was in HS in Colorado when it happened so it was a formative event.

I can't imagine! I was in high school in Seattle and even that far away it scared the bejeezus out of us. It was certainly a fascinating book. It did a really impressive dance where it humanized the two perpetrators and also showed truly how monstrous they became. It was chilling.

Freedom by Jonathan Franzen

I just barely got this one in this month. It's not my fault. It's a big book!

I read 107 books last year (I joined a 100-book challenge on another forum - it was exhilarating, but I was unemployed at the time). I will certainly get nowhere near that at the moment, but if I can get to 50, that would be satisfactory for me.  :)

January:
1. The Simpsons: An Uncensored, Unauthorized History by John Ortved
2. Which Lie Did I Tell? by William Goldman
*3. Columbine by Dave Cullen

8. Sidescrollers by Matthew Loux

I delivered a goose egg in April. Overwhelmed with school stuff and magazines. I'm totally going to knock out the two books I've listed for May by the end of the month.

Well, I got lost somewhere at the start of 2011 tracking films I watched and never caught up.  But I think I can figure out the books since it will not be too many:

Like Clovis, reading about the financial meltdown was a big part of the year
The Big Short - Michael Lewis
House of Cards - William D Cohan
The Greatest Trade Ever - Gregory Zuckerman

non-finance stuff:
Sputkin Sweetheart - Haruki Murakami
One Man's Justice - Akira Yoshimura
When You Are Engulfed in Flames - David Sedaris

In process:
Mao's Great Famine - Frank Dikotter
Man, God, Cilivization - John G Jackson
Boomerang - Michael Lewis

Coming up:
The Opium War 1840-1842 Peter Ward Fay
"Beer. Now there's a temporary solution."  Homer S.
“The direct use of physical force is so poor a solution to the problem of limited resources that it is commonly employed only by small children and great nations” - David Friedman
