Quoted for usefulness.

Can you search in specific topics using the google method?

Compare these two Google searchs:

tarantino site:filmspotting.net/forum

AND

intitle:tarantino site:filmspotting.net/forum

Neat, right?

Those quotation marks don't belong in there.

Also, lol, is the whole forum searching Google Canada now? :D

How to do this for FireFox.

This one requires a bit more work.

First find the folder with Firefox seach engines:

Windows 2000/XP     C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<string>\searchplugins
Windows Vista          C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<string>\searchplugins
Windows 98/ME          C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Macintosh (OS X)     ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/
Linux/Unix          ~/.mozilla/firefox/

If the directory does not exist just create it.

Open notepad (in Windows land) and add this to the file:

<SearchPlugin xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/2006/browser/search/" xmlns:os="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/">
<os:ShortName>filmspotting</os:ShortName>
<os:Description>filmspotting</os:Description>
<os:InputEncoding>UTF-8</os:InputEncoding>
<os:Image width="16" height="16">data:image/x-icon;base64,R0lGODlhEAAQAOMAAAAAABgYtRgYrRgYlBBSMcaEMQhKKTFaKcZ7Mb17MRBKKYxzKQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAAQABAAAARGEMhAq7y36iBwphjXhaAnnKR3DUOqAqyrxt8Lt18w05fAYawBQeULBguGA9E4MCASB4XtYnAuDsopoJqASrVVBMKglVSrEQA7</os:Image>
<os:Url type="text/html" method="GET" template="http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=site:filmspotting.net/forum+{searchTerms}&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=">
</os:Url>
</SearchPlugin>

Save the file as filmspotting.xml (make sure it does not have the ".txt" at the end after you have saved it) in the search engine directory.

If Firefox is open close the application. Open Firefox and the filmspotting search engine should be there.

Have fun.

It doesn't need to be that difficult in Firefox. There are two easier ways.

One is to forgo Google and set the quick search so it uses the forum's own search. To do that, just right click in the search blank (up at the top right of pretty much any page here), and from the context menu, choose Add a keyword for this search. Give it whatever name you want, and set the keyword to 'ff' (or whatever you prefer). That's it; you're done.

If you want to use a targeted Google search, you'll use a quick-search Bookmark. Go to the Bookmarks menu, and choose Organize bookmarks (or in some versions, Show All Bookmarks). In the box that appears, click the Bookmarks menu item once to select it, then from the Organize menu at the top, choose New bookmark. In the dialog box, you want to use these settings:
    Name: Filmspotting Forum Search
    Location: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Afilmspotting.net/forum%20%s
          [Took that back from our northern neighbors, and tweaked it just a bit to work in Firefox.]
    Keyword: ff
Ignore the rest of the blanks, and click Add. That'll do it.

Apologies for not using images, which would make that explanation easier. No time this morning, but I may come back and add them later.
