Don't you know? Every good thing that has ever happened in the last 12 years or so has been related to Christopher Nolan.

So, No country For Old Men is a bad film then?

Not sure what you mean. No Country for Old Men is a great film, and thus a great thing, and thus must have come about in some manner relating to Christopher Nolan.

 ??? :o ::) :P :-[

Let's not talk about Nolan anymore, we're getting offtrack.
I actually consider a lot of movies to be life-changing! I take them to my heart and they melt into my personality.

Firth is dull, so dull. Less so than he is in A Single Man, I suppose, but still dull. It's the face, he does remarkably little with it in either of those films. It's not the vacant stares that Mulligan offers, but perhaps cruise control is the best word to describe what is going on in both of those films. Not even close to my best actors list of this year or last. This film made me appreciate him more in A Single Man though, I think, because of the accent thing, though the stutter is impressive maybe. It's just a lot of yelling and stifling, which does not seem all that impressive.

I thought he was quite good playing the role of a man who wanted something he did not actually feel worthy of - that he was almost afraid of...
The anger that lurked just underneath was palpable along with his fear.

It's not a blow you away type role though, right? I mean he's royalty after all, not a rock star. Even in his private life he maintains the dignified air of a King. The brilliance of his performance is seen through the cracks in this persona.
This is why I respect your opinions so much 'noff. You get it.
Is acting about jumping through hoops or bringing truth? If you think the former then I guess Firth is really dull here. If you believe the latter then he is completely nails it- at times weak/ strong/ angry. The guy makes mistakes that he recovers from and rectifies- pretty much the definition of any human being, that's what I saw.
