Whoa. Bill. I could choose a few of those at least, but considering it's the best movie I believe I've ever seen, I dictate to you: Apocalypse Now (you can choose the regular or redux at will)

EDIT: oops, verbALs got there before me. So I dictate to Mr. verbALs: Schindler's List, for no other reason than that it's one of those films you just gotta see. I also think it's amazing, but that's besides the point. Down with the shame!

My list.

Grave of the Fireflies
Night of the Hunter
Ikiru
The Pianist
Bicycle Thieves
The General
The Battle of Algiers
8 1/2
The Best Years of Our Lives
Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans

I'll leave it there.

Toro, Nausicaa...without a doubt. It is in my top-20 all time.

My list is from iCheckmovies, unchecked films appearing on the most lists.

Rebecca - Hitchcock is on my list of best directors...this is one I should probably catch up with.
High Noon - Westerns or some such
La Belle et la Bete - Can it escape comparison to the Disney musical?
Trouble In Paradise - eh?
The Rules of the Game - eh?
Les Diaboliques
Sweet Smell of Success
Bride of Frankenstein - I'd probably go ahead and watch Frankenstein too since I think Netflix sends them on the same disc.
Spartacus - Kubrick is also on my best directors list.
Das Boot - I think this is the highest film on the imdb250 I haven't seen.

Bondo, I'm giving you Bride of Frankenstien-- a classic horror film (because I'd be scared if I had to marry her)

My greatly reduced list:
The 400 Blows;
Seven;
Amaracord;
Goodfellas;
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (which I haven’t seen since I was a young teen and so don't remember well);
 Blue Velvet;
In A Lonely Place;
Breathless
Peeping Tom
Playtime

oldkid, it'd be great to hear your take on Seven. Pitt/Freeman make a great team. A lot of people love this film. It's time you give it a shot.  :)

My list of shame:
Andromeda Strain - When sci-fi comes up, so does this film... and I have to say "oh, uh. Haven't seen it"  :-[
Soylent Green - same as above
Planet of the Apes - same as above
Star Trek: Wrath of Khan - same as above
The Day of the Jackal - I don't know why I think I'd like this. Maybe  the nifty guns.
Escape From New York - Seems like something I would like. Carpenter is hit and miss for me though.
Winchester '73 - Probably the MOST shameful thing on the list
Hard Boiled - THE John Woo film apparently. Seen others, didn't like 'em. Maybe this is the one.
Raise the Red Lantern - Zhang is one of my favourite directors. Somehow I haven't seen this.
Big Jake - the unseen John Wayne that to me looks the best. I'm waiting for someone to vouch for it.

I love L'Avventura, but I think I'll dictate Diabolique. It's excellent in its creepiness.

The Best Years of Our Lives

There are a few on that list which should probably be on mine, so I'll choose from among them. Let's go with The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.
___________

My list:

Miller's CrossingI think I've actually seen it, but I don't remember it at all. Would have been before I knew of the Coen Bros.
Grey GardensMy wife wants to see this, and we both agree we need to watch more documentaries.
Inglourious BasterdsI gave up on QT after not liking Jackie Brown, and Kill Bill didn't help. This might represent a last chance.
The Bicycle ThiefI just haven't ever gotten around to it.
Seven SamuraiDitto.
MDitto.
Cinema ParadisoDitto.
NotoriousNot the biggest Hitchcock fan, but maybe I just need to see more. This one is consistently reco'd for me on various sites.
The TerminatorNot at ALL an action-film fan, but even people who share that characteristic with me seem to talk about this movie an awful lot.
Raiders of the Lost ArkDitto.
