Yeah, to be fair I know where it's going so that's what's compelling to me.
THIS is what's keeping me going and because I haven't read any of it, I'm going to have to just trust you guys. I trust you. For now.

The wife is having a little trouble with the way the first two episodes ended.  I assured her that nothing bad would happen to any children or animals in the next episode.

So to clarify: which of these guys am I supposed to give a shit about?

Maybe I don't actually really like fantasy and I'm just now realizing it.

I never heard of the books until a month or two ago. But during the pilot, I paused it every 5 minutes to wiki the new characters. Now I have a pretty good grasp of the universe so far. Didn't need to do that in the second episode.

As far as who to root for, I'm guessing the Stark family, Daenerys, Jon Snow (the bastard), and Tyrion Lannister (the dwarf).

Viserys Targaryen (Daenerys' brother) and the Lannisters (incest twins) are looking to be the baddies.

Froham - It's just the first episode, give the show a chance to breathe and grow in scale and scope.  They had to fit a lot of character introductions into a very small amount of time.  It should get more interesting as the show moves forward and some of the conflicts between the Great Houses are fleshed out.

I agreed with the AVClub review, this show actually should slow down and focus on one plot thread for a while. I'd love an episode devoted to the North - and the Starks.

They are juggling too many people and locations.

I watched the first episode of this last night, so far I'm really excited about it. The first episode shows a lot of promise, a lot of good groundwork being laid and character's being set up. I'm completely fine with it being a slow burn on the story side so long as they take care to make that story effective.

I haven't read any of the series, so I don't have much investment here, but it seems like something I could really get into.
